LinkedIn sourcing for Indian staffing agencies is three jobs, not one: Recruiter search for employed talent, regular search for whoever you can see, and InMail for the first conversation. You still have to talk notice period, CTC, and onsite versus remote. Manual LinkedIn collapses past about ten open reqs. Agencies that scale it run search as a system, not a tab.
A Recruiter seat does not source. A recruiter with a Boolean, an honest CTC line, and a follow-up habit sources.
Recruiter, regular search, and InMail are three different jobs
Regular LinkedIn search is what most SMB desks actually use: title, skill, city, current company. You see whoever the network and the free/premium layer will show. Connection notes replace InMail until you run out of them. Fine for a handful of niche reqs. Fragile when the floor has a dozen live mandates.
LinkedIn Recruiter (or Recruiter Lite) is a search and project tool: saved searches, better filters, InMail credits, folders per req. It does not rank profiles against your client JD. It does not talk to Naukri Applies. It is a better lamp, not a shortlist.
| Motion | What you get | India-desk catch |
|---|---|---|
| Regular search | Visible employed titles | Network limits; easy to duplicate effort across recruiters |
| Recruiter seat | Deeper filters, projects, InMail | Cost only pays off if search is daily, not “when Naukri dries” |
| InMail / note | First conversation | Must carry CTC, notice, onsite vs remote or it dies unread |
How that sits next to an internal 75,000+ pool and a posting is covered in How to Source Passive Candidates Who Aren’t Job Hunting. This page is how agencies actually run the LinkedIn side.
What Indian candidates actually filter on
US-style InMails that sell “culture” fail here. Employed talent in India asks three things before they take a call: CTC band versus current in-hand, notice they must serve, and whether the role is onsite in one city, hybrid, or remote. Pan-India mandates still die when the first note hides a five-day Bengaluru joining.
Say the band. Say 60–90 days is acceptable if it is. Say onsite Noida 3 days if that is the truth. A recruiter who cannot say those three will not get replies from people who still have a job — which is the entire point of LinkedIn sourcing.
Credits and connection limits run out. Using them to spray “urgent requirement for Java” trains good people to ignore your agency. One specific note beats twenty templates.
Why ten open reqs break a manual LinkedIn day
Each live mandate wants its own Boolean, a list of 20–30 names, notes in a sheet, and a follow-up on day two. A recruiter already spending 4–6 hours on Naukri and email triage does not have a second full-time job hiding in the afternoon. Past about ten reqs, LinkedIn becomes theatre: the same three searches, the same missed follow-ups, two teammates InMailing the same SAP MM.
That is an operations problem, not a motivation problem. Manual LinkedIn does not scale with open reqs the way Applies volume scales. You either cap how many mandates get a real LinkedIn pass, or you stop treating LinkedIn as a tab per job. SMB floors that refuse to cap and refuse to systemise end up with theatre search: activity, no names the client will take.
How agencies run LinkedIn without living in it
Desks that keep LinkedIn useful do four unglamorous things. They write the Boolean once per skill family, not once per panic. They keep a shared “already messaged” trail so Hyderabad and Pune recruiters do not collide. They put CTC/notice/location in the first note. They dump names into the same working list as Naukri and email instead of a private Recruiter project nobody else opens.
When search itself is the bottleneck, automation that starts LinkedIn sourcing about 30 minutes after a job is posted — then ranks those profiles with inbound — is how you keep the channel without living in it. The unified-dashboard version of that mix is Naukri, LinkedIn, Email — One Dashboard for Scattered Sourcing. Until then, the rule is simple: LinkedIn is employed-talent search plus an honest first message. It is not a substitute for screening, and it is not a product you “turn on” with a seat alone.
